Sammeika Thomas, a 6’2 junior forward for the Lady Bears basketball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 23, 2011. It’s the third honor of the season for Thomas and the fourth for the Miles women’s basketball team.
The Birmingham, AL native led the Lady Bears (9-4; 6-3) to a 68-67 conference victory over Tuskegee University (7-6; 5-4), Stillman College (5-8; 3-7) 63-52 and Paine College (1-15; 1-12) 51-42 on Saturday. Thomas averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, 1.7 steals and one block shot per game during the three games.
Thomas has also been named for the second time SIAC Women's Player of the Week after leading the Lady Bears to a perfect 3-0 record for the week. Thomas scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds against Paine on Saturday.
In the SIAC, Thomas is ranked 14th in scoring, 5th in rebounding, 10th in free throw percentage, 14th in steals, 15th in field goal percentage, 2nd in blocked shots, 8th in offensive rebounding and 2nd in defensive rebounding in the SIAC.
