SAMMEIKA THOMAS, a 6’2 junior forward for the Lady Bears basketball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 30, 2011. It’s the 4th honor of the season for Thomas and the 5th for the Miles women’s basketball team.
The Birmingham, AL native led the Lady Bears (10-6; 7-5) to a 59-53 conference victory over Claflin University (7-11; 6-9) and losses to #2 Fort Valley State University (12-6; 10-2) 53-68 and #1 Albany State University (12-7; 10-2) 63-71 this past week. Thomas averaged 12 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assist, 2.7 steals and one block per game during the three games.
For the week, Thomas claimed her first double-double of the week in the Claflin University game as she scored 16 points and 11 rebounds, while going 8-of-10 at the free throw line. In the Fort Valley State University game, Thomas grabbed eight boards, scored three point and blocked two shots. The Albany State University game, she went off again with her second double-double for 17 points, 13 rebounds, six assist, two steals and one block.
In the SIAC, Thomas is ranks 13th in scoring (11.3), 2nd in rebounding (9.3), 9th in free throw percentage (.750), and 11th in steals (2.1), 2nd in blocked shots (2.1), 7th in offensive rebounding (3.0) and 2nd in defensive rebounding (6.3).
