Senior shortstop Jeffery Jones (6’0) for the Golden Bears baseball team have been named SIAC Baseball Western Division Player of the Week, respectively, after his impressive performance at the plate during week # 1. It is the first honor of the season for Jones and the first for the Miles baseball team.
Jones, a native of Fairfield, AL., had a strong week at the plate, going 8-for-11, including a triple and a double, with a .727 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage in four games. He also scored eight runs and drove in four with a .824 on-base percentage and a .727 fielding percentage while also stealing one base. Jones and the Golden Bears finished 4-0 for the week with a pair of wins over Morehouse College and Tougaloo College. The Golden Bears are also ranked 9th in the first week polling of the NCBWA Division II Baseball South Region Polls.
