BIRMINGHAM --
Victoria Sutton and Frantisha Tyson each scored 10 points but Miles struggled from the field in an 85-42 loss to Alabama-Birmingham Wednesday night at Bartow Arena. The contest was a counter for the Blazers (3-0) but served as an exhibition for the Golden Bears.
The Lady Bears were nearly shutout in the first quarter, missing their first 11 shots and falling behind 17-2. Only a Charitee Jenkins jumper with 1:13 left in the quarter got Miles on the board as UAB led 17-2 after the first 10 minutes. While things improved slightly in the second quarter, Miles still trailed 45-19 at the half.
With the final result not in doubt, head coach
Phillip Wallace, Jr. was able to get most of his players some time against the Division I Blazers. It gave the team the opportunity to measure itself against stiff competition while continuing to prepare for some tough Division II competition.
Jasmine Hollis had four points and nine rebounds and
Amoni Walker added six points for Miles, which plays again on Nov. 20 when it opens its home slate against West Alabama. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
