In a season that has been full of historic feats, the Miles women's basketball team just added one more accomplishment to the ledger.
By virtue of their third consecutive SIAC Tournament championship on Saturday, the Lady Bears earned an automatic bid the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament for the third straight season. But for the first time, Miles will be the high seed in its opening round matchup as it was slotted as the No. 4 seed in this week's South Region Tournament. The Lady Bears will face No. 5 seed Nova Southeastern in the first round on Friday.Â
The Lady Bears are 25-5, the most single-season wins in program history, and have won eight of their last 10 games. This will mark the second time Miles has played against its opponent. The last meeting came in 2015, a lopsided victory for the Sharks. But a lot has changed since then and the Lady Bears come in as one of the best teams in Division II, ranked No. 24 with a top-20 winning percentage. Miles is the No. 3 rebounding team in the country and is one of the top-50 teams in the country in forcing turnovers and points allowed. Coming into the tournament, Nova Southeastern is the No. 14-ranked team in the country, 27-4 and has won eight of its last 10.Â
The schedule for the games, as well as ticket and live streaming information, will be released by the host institution and made available at milesgoldenbears.com. The game will be played at Spragins Hall on the campus of Alabama Huntsville, the No. 1 seed in the South Region.Â
