Sammeika Thomas, a 6’2 junior forward for the Lady Bears basketball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 2, 2011. It’s the first honor of the season for Thomas and the second for the Miles women’s basketball team.
The Birmingham, AL native led the Lady Bears (3-3;1-3) to a 86-56 conference victory over winless Paine College (0-7; 0-5) in Monday night basketball win, by leading the Lady Bears in scoring with a game-high 19 points, five rebounds, four assist, three steals and three blocked shots. Thomas hit 9-of-10 free throws and went 5-of-11 from the floor.
Thomas is ranked 3rd in rebounding, 13th in field goal percentage, and 2nd in blocked shots, 10th in offensive rebounding and 3rd in defensive rebounding in the SIAC. She is 36th in rebounds per game, 31st in blocked shots per game and 335th in steals per game in the NCAA.
