PATRICK MELVIN, a 6’3 senior first baseman and pitcher for the Golden Bears baseball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 27, It’s the first honor of the season for Melvin and the 1st for the Miles men’s baseball team.
The Trafford, AL native went 11-for-17 from the plate, including two doubles, with a .647 batting average and a .765 slugging percentage in five games. The 6-3 senior had two RBI’s with four runs scored. On the mound, Melvin pitched nine innings with seven strikeouts against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University to pick up the win. He helped the Golden Bears to a 4-1 record with wins over Concordia-Selma College and a three-game series sweep over Kentucky State. The wins improved the teams record to 12-10; 6-0 in the SIAC.
Melvin was also named SIAC West Division Baseball Player of the Week.
