SAMMEIKA THOMAS, a 6’2 junior forward for the Lady Bears basketball team has been named the MilesGoldenBears.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 6, 2011. It’s the 5th honor of the season for Thomas and the 6th for the Miles women’s basketball team.
The Birmingham, AL native led the Lady Bears (13-6; 10-5) to a three game win strike with victories over conference foe LeMoyne-Owen College 59-37, Lane College 56-46 and Kentucky State University 57-41 this past week. Thomas averaged 11.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.3 assist, 3.0 steals and 2.3 blocks per game during the week.
For the week, Thomas had two double-double games during the week with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Lane game and 13 points and 15 rebound in the Kentucky State game.
In the SIAC, Thomas is ranks 13th in scoring (11.3), 2nd in rebounding (9.6), 9th in free throw percentage (.739), and 11th in steals (2.3), 2nd in blocked shots (2.1), 7th in offensive rebounding (3.0) and 2nd in defensive rebounding (9.6).
In the NCAA, Thomas is ranked 404 out of 500 in points per game, 46 in rebounds per game, 34 in blocked shots per game and 149 in steals per game.
