Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Win streak ends at 16

TUSKEGEE, Ala. -- All good things come to an end.

The Miles women's basketball team entered Saturday's game against Tuskegee having won 16 straight games, including a dominant victory over the Golden Tigerettes last weekend. The Lady Bears were less than three minutes from extending that streak before Tuskegee got hot from the field and engineered a 62-55 come-from-behind victory at Chappie James Arena. It was the first loss for No. 18 Miles (16-2, 12-1 SIAC West) since its season-opening defeat against Columbus State in November.

The game went back-and-forth throughout. In the fourth quarter, alone, there were three ties and the teams swapped the lead seven times. But when Iemyiah Harris drained two straight 3-pointers, in closed out eight consecutive points by the junior guard and the Lady Bears had taken a 53-48 advantage with 2:57 to go.

But Tuskegee answered with five straight baskets from four different players. Arielle McElroy hit a 3-pointers to give the Golden Tigerettes the lead for good with 2:17 remaining and Brittany Bolin started and ended the stretch with buckets, the last completing a 10-0 run that put Miles in a 58-53 hole with 80 seconds remaining. After grabbing the lead late, the Lady Bears missed six of their last seven shots from the field. Meanwhile, TU made 11-of-16 from the field in the final quarter to help extend its home win streak over Miles to seven games.

Bolin, McElroy, and Alana Roberts each scroed 15 points to lead Tuskegee. Harris (27 points, three assists, three steals), Madison Lee (10 points, 10 rebounds), Nuroyah Slaton (seven points, five rebounds, two blocks) and Imani Williams (two points, team-high eight rebounds) were the leaders for Miles, which plays again on Monday at Spring Hill. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
