Big 3rd Quarter Propels Miles to Homecoming Victory

Golden Bears outscore Yellow Jackets 28-7 in 3rd quarter.

Fairfield, AL | The SIAC game of the week lived up to the hype and then some.  Celebrating their Homecoming, the Golden Bears defeated the Yellow jackets of Allen on Saturday in a game to remember.

The game did not start too festive for the Golden Bears as they turned the ball over on downs on their first two possessions of the game and lost a fumble on their third possession.  Allen would find the end zone early in the second quarter but the PAT was blocked. After a punt by the Golden Bears that downed the ball on the 1-yard line, the Yellow Jackets would go 99-yards for the score, with a successful 2-point conversion; the Yellow Jackets would go into the half with a 14-0 lead.

The third quarter saw an offensive explosion by the Golden Bears.  On the first possession, Edwin Kleinpeter, Jr. connected with Travaunta Abner on a 52 yards score to put the Golden Bears on the scoreboard.  The Yellow Jackets next two possessions would result in two interceptions. Cameron Williams would intercept a pass and run it back for a 60-yard score, then Justin Jackson would intercept a pass and return it to the Golden Bears 48-yard line.  The Yellow Jackets did their best to keep the Golden Bears out of the end zone but on a fourth down with five yards to convert, Kleinpeter would connect with Geordon Pollard on a 31-yard touchdown strike to give the Golden Bears their first lead of the game at 21-14. After a missed field goal by the Golden Bears, the Yellow Jackets would go on an impressive drive to even the score at 21 but after a good kickoff return by Jaylin Peterson, Kleinpeter would complete a pass to Travaunta Abner, for a 58-yard touchdown to give the Golden Bears 28-21 advantage.

In the fourth, The Yellow Jackets appeared to tie the game on a pick-six, but an illegal block during the return negated the touchdown.  Allen would see the end zone again but a holding penalty brought it back and on the next snap, Chris Ware would force and recover a fumble. The Yellow Jackets defense  held and forced a punt setting up a potential game tying drive. After driving down the field, the Yellow Jackets would take the final snap from the Golden Bears 22-yard line with three second remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets QB David Wright would try to run for the score but Roc Dowdell would tackle him to end the ball game and give the Golden Bears the homecoming victory.

The Golden Bears will travel to Albany Ga. this weekend to face Albany State University.  The game will be broadcast on HBCUGO. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm cst.
