Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Bears cruise past Carver

Miles shot over 60 percent from the field and had six different players score in double figures as it won its fourth straight game with a 103-61 win over Carver Tuesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

The Golden Bears (4-0) eclipsed 100 points for the first time since a loss at Benedict in 2018. The last time Miles broke the century mark in a victory came against Lee University in 2016. The team shot 64.2 percent from the field, just the third time in the past 10 seasons it has shot better at least 60 percent from the field (Benedict (60.0), 2018 and West Georgia (63.3), 2015).

After the Cougars scored the first basket of the game, Miles effectively put an end to any semblance of a close contest by scoring the next 16 points inside of the first seven minutes of the game. The Golden Bears shot nearly 62 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes by getting an assortment of high percentage shots in the lane. The defense did not slouch during the opening half, holding Carver under 30 percent from the field and forcing a bunch of difficult shots and several shot clock violations. Miles took a 21-point lead on a Yasim Hooker (10 points, five rebounds) basket with 4:44 left in the half and the Cougars never got closer the rest of the game, trailing 49-23 at the half.

A 3-point play by Richard Feagin less than four minutes into the second half gave Miles a 62-31 lead and the question was no longer how much closer Carver would get, but how big could the Golden Bears build their lead. Two more free throws from Feagin (13 points) at the 6:54 mark made the score 92-44, the 48-point margin being the largest of the contest. A Kendrick Foster bucket with just more than a minute remaining is what pushed Miles past 100 points. Ten different players scored over the final 20 minutes for Miles as they produced an incredible 60/70/80 shooting slash in the second half (66.7 percent from the field/75 percent on 3-pointers/87.5 on free throws).

Stephon Auguste had a team-high 18 points for Carver while Paul Hepburn and Antwon Ferrell each had 13 for the Cougars. Avery Brown (19 points, eight assists) was the game's top scorer for Miles. Other top performers included Ryan Calhoun (17 points, 4-of-5 3-pointers), Jelani Watson-Gayle (11 points, five rebounds, three assists), Joel Logan (10 points). Jacorian Dalton (eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks) and Anthony Latty (four points, seven rebounds, two blocks).
