TUSKEGEE, Ala. -- Despite playing without one of its stars, Miles nearly pulled out a big road win over Tuskegee.

The Golden Bears erased a 14-point deficit in the first half and had the lead with less than a minute to go. But the Golden Tigers were able to come away with a 62-61 win Wednesday night at Chappie James Arena. 

Playing without All-Conference selection Jelani Watson-Gayle due to injury, Miles (4-1) still found itself in position to earn a big road win. Richard Feagin (three points, six rebounds, six assists) knocked down his only shot of the game - a 3-pointer - with 1:14 to go to put the Golden Bears on top 59-58. Tuskegee (3-3) would miss two shots on its next possession but corralled offensive rebounds after both attempts and ultimately drew a foul. Steve Dulley would make both free throws to put the Golden Tigers back out front with 40 seconds left.

Miles had a chance to retake the lead on its next possession but a steal and fastbreak layup by Deshawn Millington pushed the Tuskegee advantage to three points with 17 seconds remaining. The Golden Bears had one final chance to force a tie but Avery Brown (game-high 24 points, six rebounds, six assists), who scored 16 points in the second half, missed a 3-ball with five seconds to go. Joel Logan (six points, four rebounds) put back the miss but it was not enough to keep Miles from dropping its first game of the season.

Greg Boyd scored a team-high 19 points and Kaleb Morton added 14 for Tuskegee. Ryan Calhoun (13 points) and Yasim Hooker (11 points, eight rebounds) were top contributors for Miles, which hosts Spring Hill on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
