CARROLLTON, Ga. --
Jacob Bisharat had two hits and two runs batted in but West Georgia used a four-run fifth inning to take control in an eventual 11-4 win over Miles Tuesday afternoon at Cole Field. It was the second win of the season for the Wolves (21-12) over the Golden Bears (20-15).
The combination of Bisharat and
Alex Bentley worked very nicely in the opening moments of the contest. In the first inning, Bentley singled and moved to second on a safety from
Reeves Brashear. Bisharat would follow with a single that scored Bentley and Miles grabbed an early 1-0 advantage. West Georgia would score twice in the bottom of the first but in the third, the duo was at it again. Bentley doubled with one out. One out later, Bisharat singled again to tie the game at 2.
Miles starter
Xavius Burden (1-1) would escape a jam in the third after the Wolves led off with a triple but did not score. It did not go as well in the fifth as the first four Wolves reached base and Burden would get pulled in favor of
Andrew Datcher, but not before he was charged with six earned runs over four-plus innings of work. UWG would tack on runs against the bullpen over the next three innings, the last coming on a two-run homer by Price Peters - his third in two games against the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears were able to score again in the ninth.
Roderick Ransom doubled and scored on a single by
Cody Hamilton, who later came around on a sacrifice fly by
Trevor Bates. Miles had 11 hits on the afternoon but hit into two double plays and saw three players thrown out on the base paths.
Miles is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Kentucky State to start a three-game series. The doubleheader begins at noon.
