ATLANTA -- Miles ran its win streak to six games with a three-game sweep of Morehouse on Friday and Saturday at Perkerson Park. The Golden Bears (14-11, 3-0 SIAC West) swept a doubleheader on Friday, 7-6 and 14-9, before taking the third game from the Maroon Tigers (9-16, 0-3 SIACÂ East) 9-3 on Saturday.Â
Jacob Bisharat had seven hits and five runs batted in and
Lavontae LaCount added five hits and five RBI during the series to pace the offense.
Christopher Elias did a solid job on the mound in the final game to pick up his team-leading third win, which ties
William Donahoo,
Dylan Johnson and
Andrew Datcher - all of whom were prominent in winning the team's opening conference series.
GAME 1: Miles 7, Morehouse 6
In this back-and-forth contest, Morehouse scored twice in the fifth to tie the game at 6. But Miles took the lead in the top of the seventh.
Trevor Bates led off the inning with a walk. With two outs, he stole second, then stole third. As he was sliding safely into third, the ball got away and he scored the go-ahead run.
Andrew Datcher pitched the a clean bottom of the seventh for his first career save and gave the win to
Dylan Johnson (3-3), who gave up seven hits and six earned runs while striking out four. He was bailed out twice by the Golden Bears offense. After Morehouse posted a four-spot in the third, Miles scored five times in the fourth to take a 6-4 advantage.
Kolby Brannon and
Roderick Ransom each drove in runs to cut the deficit to one, then Bates had a two-run double to give the Golden Bears the lead.
Reeves Brashear would follow with a double to score Bates and close out the scoring.
GAME 2: Miles 14, Morehouse 9
Miles dominated this game from the beginning, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings to take control. Donahoo (3-2) pitched six innings and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs, but he had little to worry about as the Golden Bears had 17 hits in the contest.
Jacob Bisharat went 4-for-4 with three RBI. LaCount and Brashear each drove in three runs while LaCount and
Ryan Bargery each had three hits as every Miles player scored at least once and all but one had at least one hit.
GAME 3: Miles 9, Morehouse 3
Alex Bentley hit a two-run homer, every Miles player had at least one hit and Elias was in control on the mound as the Golden Bears completed the sweep of the Maroon Tigers.
Elias (3-3) gave up run-scoring singles to Kaelan Ashford-Jones in the first and third innings but otherwise kept Morehouse at bay. He allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Miles trailed 1-0 going into the second inning, but Bentley hit his first home run of the season to give the team the lead for good. Brandon Conner and Bates each drove in runs to stretch the lead to 4-1.
LaCount had RBI in the third and fifth innings, Bargery added another in the sixth, and Brannon and
Jacob Bisharat added RBI in the eight to close out the scoring.
UP NEXT: The Golden Bears travel to face Montevallo for a doubleheader on Mar. 20. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
