PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Miles played its third straight game against a Gulf South Conference team when it traveled to take on West Florida Wednesday night. Much like the first two, the Golden Bears seemed to follow the same script in an 84-66 loss to the Argonauts at the UWF Field House.
The Golden Bears (0-3) fell behind early, stormed back to take the lead, the went into a shooting funk that allowed the opponent to go on a big run and never give back the lead. In the first half against the Argonauts (3-0), Miles fell behind by six points, took a four-point lead, and found itself in a seven-point hole at halftime.
Miles was able to regain the lead in the second half on a 3-pointer by
Sheldon Wright less than three minutes into the period and held a 54-52 advantage on
Robert Jones' bucket inside the 15-minute mark. But trailing just 64-61 after a
Nathan Sheffield bucket with 10:07 left, Miles did not make another basket from the field. The team missed its last 12 shots and turned the ball over eight times to end the game. The Golden Bears will get a shot even the score on Saturday when they host the Argos in their home opener at 6 p.m.
Wright scored 19 points and
Jeffrey Dockett added 17 points to lead the Golden Bears. Sheffield added nine points, four rebounds and two assists and
Chris English had six points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
