After going the final 10 minutes of Wednesday's loss at West Florida without a field goal, Miles had hoped it could avoid a cold shooting stretch in the rematch and get its first win of the season.

Unfortunately, history found a way of repeating itself Saturday at the Golden Bears home opener against the same Argonauts team that won by 18 points in Pensacola. Miles went more than seven minutes between Robert Jones buckets and saw a two-point advantage turn into a double-digit deficit in a 74-58 defeat at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Miles (0-4) made just seven baskets and shot 24 percent in the second half to  sully what had been a strong first half performance.

Miles led by as many as nine points in the first half after shooting almost 55 percent from the field. Carl Garcia scored 11 of his team-high 13 points in the opening 20 minutes, the Golden Bears - after being handled on the boards at West Florida - held a 22-20 rebound advantage and held the Argonauts (4-0) to 33 percent shooting from the field. Miles led 39-35 at the half and looked prepared to break through in the win column for the first time this season.

A storm quickly blew through the area in the opening moments of the second half, knocking the lights out at Knox-Windham and delaying the game almost 13 minutes. Once power was restored, it did nto take long to see that the wind may have blown away the Golden Bears offense as well. Jones (six points, 10 rebounds) slammed one home with 12:43 to go to give Miles a 47-45 advantage. But the team would miss its next eight shots while the Argonauts surged with a 15-0 run that did not end until a Jones putback with 5:09 left. By then, UWF had a 60-49 and the Golden Bears would get no closer than eight points.

Jeffrey Dockett had 10 points, Damian Archer had eight points, Nathan Sheffield had seven points and eight rebounds, and Rashawn Chapman had six points and six rebounds for the Golden Bears, who travel to face Selma University Monday at 7:30 p.m.
