Miles forward Cameron Jernigan has been named Newcomer of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. It is the third time this season that he has been chosen for the honor.

Jernigan, a senior from Gary, Ind., posted two double-doubles and averaged 14.7 points on 54 percent shooting and 9.0 rebounds as the Golden Bears went 2-1. In a loss against Savannah State, he had 18 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks. In a win over Spring Hill, he had 11 points and 11 rebounds. On the season, Jernigan is averaging 11.3 points on 58 percent shooting, 9.2 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. He is second in the SIAC in rebounds and blocked shots.

He and the rest of the Golden Bears will be back in action for the SIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Mar. 5 at 7 p.m.
