HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Miles failed to come up with the big hit in both games of its doubleheader loss to Alabama Huntsville on Saturday to wrap up the Sam Baldwin Memorial Tournament at Les Stuedeman Field. The Chargers won the first game 6-1 before taking the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.
In the opener, Miles (5-5) took a lead in the top of the first when
Gabriela Garcia's sacrifice fly scored
Jada Odom, who had doubled. UAH (12-3) got the lead back with two in the bottom of the first, but broke the game open with a two-out, bases-clearing triple by J. Cockrell for a 5-1 lead. The Lady Bears had exactly one hit in each inning and had two runners get to third base, nut ultimately could not get the big hit that would allow them to get back into the contest.
Kaylyn Cordero and
Sara Harris each had two hits while
Gracey Adkins (0-3) gave up seven hits and six runs in five innings of work in the circle
Game two saw Miles put its first two hitters on but fail to score in the top of the first. UAH responded with a six-spot in the bottom of the frame, punctuated by a three-run home run by A. Flynt to put the Chargers up big. Garcia and
Trenity Okedele each had doubles as part of a five-hit effort by the Lady Bears. But the game was ultimately ended in five innings due to the run-rule.
The Lady Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face West Alabama. The double header starts with first pitch at 4 p.m.
