Jayson Wood pitches seven strong innings and
Trey Walker had four hits to lead the way as Miles finished a three-game sweep of LeMoyne-Owen with a 10-1 win Saturday afternoon at historic Rickwood Field.
The Golden Bears (9-2, 3-0 SIAC) took an early 2-0 lead on RBI from
Gregory Willis and
Ajani Lyons in the bottom of the first, then kept adding on by scoring in six of their eight at-bats. Walker had two triples, one of them driving in
Landon Whitehead in the fifth for a 6-1 Miles advantage. That would be more than enough for Wood (1-0), who gave up just three hits and struck out seven. Willis pitched a scoreless eighth and
Byron Wills struck out the side in the ninth to close out the Magicians (4-8, 0-3).
Miles is back in action next weekend, hosting a three-game set against Clark Atlanta. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon.
