Tough day for Lady Bears at Montevallo

Miles got off to a tough start and never was able to mount much offense as it dropped a doubleheader at Montevallo on Tuesday. The Lady Bears (3-3) fell 9-1 in the opener before losing the nightcap 13-1. Both games ended in five innings due to the run-rule.

In the opener, the Falcons scored six times in the first inning. Starter Marissa Martinez (0-1) got just one out - which was on the base paths - before being relieved by Anndria Kay, who slowed the Montevallo attack but, unfortunately, the damage had been done. Over the first four innings, Miles had just one baserunner - Andrea Harris - who reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout. She stole second but was left stranded. The Lady Bears got just one hit and it came in the fifth when Gabriela Garcia led off the inning with a solo home run, her second, to avert the shutout and no-hitter.

The second game was as much a repeat of the first. Montevallo scored three unearned runs in the first after starter Gracey Adkins (0-2) got the first two outs. The Falcons exploded with six runs in the second off Delaney Gray to put the game out of reach. Miles was only able to muster three hits - a single by Garcia in the first, a double by Jada Bradford in the second and another single by Auriel Moutlry in the fourth - but only one runner made it to third base.

The Lady Bears are back in action on Friday when they play a doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan in Huntsville, Ala. at the Sam Baldwin Memorial Invitational. first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
