HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Miles continued its strong start to the 2026 season with a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday to open the Sam Baldwin Memorial Tournament. The Lady Bears won the opener 9-1 before taking the nightcap 7-2 at Les Stuedeman Field. It marked the first time in program history that the Lady Bears (5-3) have defeated the Panthers (1-5) in seven contests dating back to 2014.
The Lady Bears took control of the game early, scoring four times in the second and adding two more in the third. A throwing error plated the first two runs before
Jada Bradford's sacrifice fly and
Andrea Harris' ground out doubled the lead. In the third,
Cassie Willis had a RBI double and she scored on a single by
Delaney Gray.
Jada Odom stole home in a two-run fifth and Gray added another RBI with a double in the sixth. Gray (3-0) also got the job done in the circle, giving up just four hits and striking out two in the complete-game, run-rule victory.
Miles took an early lead in the second game as Gray and
Kaylyn Cordero drove in runs in the first. Ahead 3-2, Miles tacked on four more in the fifth. Gray and Harris both had RBI and a big two-run double by Trinity Okedele added extra insurance for
Madison McGowan and
Anndria Kay (2-0), who got the win after allowing just one hit in 4 2/3 innings of relief.
Miles is back in action for a doubleheader against host UAH on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
