Rieves earns SIAC weekly honor



Miles forward Makayla Rieves has been named Player of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for her performance last week for the Lady Bears.

Rieves, a senior from Columbus, Miss., averaged a point a minute in two big wins for the Lady Bears. She put up 17.5 points on 74 percent shooting (17-of-23), 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 17.5 minutes per game. In a win over Tuskegee, she scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-13 from the field (also career highs) and added eight rebounds. In Miles' victory over Albany State, the senior had her second career double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and added two blocked shots.

On the season, Rieves - a Preseason All-SIAC selection - is averaging 8.8 points on 50 percent shooting, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 12 games. She will be back on the floor with the Lady Bears on Thursday when Miles travels to play Clark Atlanta.
