Miles school-record home win streak is no more.
A debilitating start was too much to overcome for the Golden Bears in front of packed Knox-Windham Gymnasium crowd as Tuskegee ended the school's 26-game home win streak with a 76-65 victory on Saturday. It was the first time that Miles (12-3, 10-3 SIAC West) had lost at home since the Golden Tigers (13-2, 12-1) won in January 2024 - a span of 710 days.
The game got away from Miles early as Tuskegee scored the first 12 points of the game. A 3-pointer from
Elijah Terry, seven minutes into the contest, finally put Miles on the board. But the deficit was as large as 18 points in the first half as the Golden Bears struggled to get many good shot opportunities. Miles had the ball after getting to within 11 points but when RJ Walker hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, Tuskegee had 38-22 lead.
The Golden Bears quickly fell behind by 21 points early in the second half but finally started to show some life.
Frankie Idlett sandwiched a Williams 3-pointer with two of his own on consecutive possessions to start the rally. Later, a breakaway dunk by
Shannon Jones (four points, four assists, two steals) ignited the crowd and his two free throws with 14:41 remaining got Miles to within 49-40.
Unfortunately, Tuskegee as able to push the lead back out to 20 points with less than nine minutes to go. Miles continued to fight, using a 10-0 run that was punctuated by an
Isaiah Jones (eight points) slam to bring the deficit to 62-52 with 5:38 left. Another Idlett 3-ball brought Miles closer, 71-65, with 55 seconds left. But the Golden Bears ultimately ran out of time.
Khalil Genwright had 21 points and Anthony Wright added 15 to lead Tuskegee. Williams had 14 points, Idlett added 13 points,
Najashi Tolefree had a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) and
Cameron Jernigan had eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Miles, which travels to face Spring Hill on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
