In a game that featured 10 ties and 14 lead changes, it was Miles that came from behind to take out Albany State 86-80 in overtime Tuesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. It was the fourth straight win overall for the Golden Bears (12-2, 10-2 SIAC West), who were able to preserve their home win streak at 26 straight games.

The win streak was close to being extinguished late by the Golden Rams. A steal and layup by Shakur Poteat with 32 second left in regulation had given Albany State a 73-71 lead. Najashi Tolefree and David Williams both had chances to tie on Miles' ensuing possession but could not get the shots to fall. Fortunately, Cameron Jernigan grabbed the last miss and was fouled. He calmly sank two free throws with eight second left to tie the game at 73.

The Golden Rams (7-8, 6-5 SIAC East) had one more chance to win in regulation but a pull-up jumper by Poteat was too strong and the game went into overtime. Albany State made two free throws to open the scoring but Tolefree (team-high 19 points) scored on consecutive possessions to give Miles two-point advantage with 3:20 remaining. Jamarkus Alexander would nail a short jumper on the next possession and the Golden Bears held a 79-75 advantage.

Two more Albany State free throws would whittle the lead back to two points before Frankie Idlett hit a big 3-pointer with 1:44 left for a five-point lead. Jernigan would split two free throws with 1:22 remaining for an 83-77 lead. Kendale Johnson would make a 3-pointer on Albany State's next possession - its only field goal of the overtime period - but Idlett (15 points, five rebounds) would answer with a driving layup to give the Golden Bears an 85-80 lead with 37 seconds on the clock to close out the Golden Rams.

Poteat had 21 points and Johnson added 15 points to lead Albany State. Jernigan (17 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, two steals) and Williams (17 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals) had big all-around games while Shannon Jones also chipped in with seven points and four rebounds for Miles, which hosts Tuskegee on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
