Miles remained unblemished at home with a straight-set victory (25-16, 25-14, 25-14) over Tougaloo on Tuesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. It was the third straight win for the Lady Bears (4-3), who are over .500 after seven matches for the first time since 2022.
Tougaloo (0-9) put up a fight early, as it was tied with Miles at 15 in the first set. But from there, everything fell apart for the Lady Bulldogs, who struggled on serve receive all night. Two aces by
Jaida Lloyd (14 assists, five aces) highlighted a 5-0 run by Miles to take control of the first set. Three more attack errors did not help as the Lady Bears won the opening set going away.
The aces kept coming for Miles in the second set.
Karea Copeland (12 kills, four aces, thee assists) fired off four of them during a decisive 6-0 that gave the Lady Bears a 12-5 advantage. Lloyd added two more, the last giving Miles a 17-7 lead. The Lady Bears attack was just as lethal in the second set as they hit .500 (13-2-22), led by
Zion Rucker (6-1-10, .500) and Copeland (four kills each) and
Kandace Griffin (three kills).
Five more service aces (three by
Kayla Trawick, two by
Eliyah McIlwain) highlighted the final set as Miles led by as many as 12 points. The Lady Bears did not give the Bulldogs much room to mount any type of comeback, holding them to -.190 hitting (2-6-21) in the set and -.043 for the match.
The Lady Bears are back in action beginning Sept. 25 as part of the SIAC East Crossover event in Albany, Ga.
