Men's Basketball All-SIAC 2025

Alvin Miles named SIAC top player; Watson, Trotter also feted

Miles guard Alvin Miles was named the men's basketball Player of the Year in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday. Head coach Fred Watson was selected as Coach of the Year and forward Corey Trotter was named to the Third Team. The selections were made by vote of the league's respective basketball programs.

Miles, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., was the first Golden Bear to win the league's top player award since Avery Brown in 2020. The best player on the SIAC's top team and the 2024-25 SIAC Preseason Player of the Year, Miles is the only player in the conference to score at least 400 points, grab 100 rebounds, and dish out 100 assists. Overall, he is 10th in scoring (15.6), fourth in assists (3.8) and assist/turnover ratio (1.8) , fifth in free throw percentage (.789), and ninth in 3-point field goals per contest (1.9).  Miles has scored in double figures in 22 of the Golden Bears' 26 contests, with seven games of more than 20 points. He is also top-20 in the conference in steals (1.3 per game, 17th)

Trotter, a redshirt junior from Augusta, Ga., was a preseason Second Team All-SIAC selection. He is the top interior defender for the team that leads in SIAC in defensive scoring and is second in defensive field goal percentage. He is currently second in the SIAC in rebounds per game (8.9) and sixth in blocked shots (28). He has eight double-digit rebound efforts, including a monster effort at Auburn Montgomery (22 points, career-high 23 rebounds), and 11 more games with at least seven rebounds. He is shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent on 3-point attempts. He has 13 games where he has scored in double figures and five double-doubles and had at least one blocked shot in 20 games.

For Watson, it marks the third time he has won the top coach award at Miles and the ninth time he has done so in his career. He led the Golden Bears to a league-best 23-3 record, which includes a 19-1 record in conference play. Miles posted its best home record (12-0) in school history and is currently ranked 21st in the national poll.
