Jernigan grabs another SIAC weekly award



For the second time this season, Miles forward Cameron Jernigan has been named Newcomer of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Jernigan, a senior from Gary, Ind., got it done on both ends of the floor for Miles last week, averaging 10.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 steals while shooting 60 percent from the field as the Golden Bears won both games. He had his third straight double-double in a win over Benedict, with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, 14 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. He had four blocks against Allen, the sixth time in seven games that he has at least that many and he now has 14 rebounds in three consecutive games.

Currently, Jernigan is averaging 12.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 65 percent from the field. He leads the SIAC in rebounds and blocked shots, ranking second nationally in blocks per game and eighth in rebounds per contest.

Jernigan and the Golden Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they face Edward Waters in Jacksonville, Fla. at 6:30 p.m.
