Samarian Franklin and
Jalyn Shelby each scored 11 points as Miles defeated Clark Atlanta Thursday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. With the victory, the Lady Bears improve to 2-1 on the season overall and are 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Panthers are now 0-3 overall, 0-1 in SIAC play.
Miles trailed early but took their first lead, 8-6, on a 3-pointer by Shelby midway through the first quarter. A 3-pointer by
Shannon Niles midway through the second quarter gave the Lady Bears a nine-point lead but they went into halftime ahead 35-29. Two free throws by Franklin gave Miles its biggest lead - 12 points -Â with 4:25 left in the third. But a free throw by Keyra Peterson allowed CAU to tie the game at 63 with less than a minute to go.
Nayla Wesley (eight points, seven rebounds) made two free throws with 20 seconds left to give Miles the lead for good.
The Lady Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Fort Valley State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
