MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Miles dropped two of three matches this weekend at the SIAC East/West Crossover at LeMoyne-Owen, sandwiching losses to Allen (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) and Benedict (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) around a four-set victory over Edward Waters (25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 25-23). With play against the East Division wrapped up for the season, the Lady Bears sit 10-10 overall, 4-7 in conference play. They are tied for third in the West Division, looking to return to the SIAC Championship tournament after a year hiatus.
Karea Copeland, again, led the charge offensively for the Lady Bears. She posted double-doubles in each match, finishing with 49 kills, 44 digs and five service aces while hitting .275. Her best match came against Edward Waters, where she had 19 kills, a career-high 22 digs, and four aces.
Kori Brown also had a career-best outing against the Tigers, finishing with 13 kills.
The Lady Bears did have their struggles against Allen and Benedict, hitting just .137 against the Yellow Jackets and .078 against the Tigers. The serve receive was also in peril, allowing a total of 28 aces between the two contests.
Still, Miles was able to stay in those matches, as well as pull off the victory over Edward Waters, but getting solid contributions from
Jaida Lloyd (55 assist, 21 digs, four aces),
Addisyn Doss (career-high four aces vs. Allen),
Kayla Trawick (30 digs, seven aces) and
Eliyah McIlwain (38 digs).
The Lady Bears are back in action on Monday when they travel to play Rust. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
