Miles pitcher/infielder
Camden Matthews was named Player of the Week in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for his performance during the Golden Bears' four games last week.
Matthews, from Scottsboro, Ga., slashed .467/.500/.667 with three doubles and 10 runs batted in as Miles went 2-2. His best offensive performances came against Benedict, where he went 2-for-4 with four RBI in a win that completed a sweep of the Tigers. He then added a 3-for-5 performance with a double and five RBI in the Golden Bears' win over Savannah State. He also contributed on the mound, earning the victory after tossing a season-high 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out six.
Matthews is the fifth Golden Bear to earn a SAIC weekly award this season. He and the rest of the team will host Edward Waters this weekend for a three-game series.
