Miles outfielder
Trey Rutledge has been named the SIAC Baseball Player of the Week for his contributions to the Golden Bears last week. He is the second Miles player to earn the award this season, joining catcher
Brandon Leroy.
Rutledge, from Irondale, Ala., played a major role for the Golden Bears, who went 3-1 on the week. In four games, the redshirt sophomore slashed .385/.529/.923 with 2 home runs, 7 RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases. His four hits and four runs batted in during the opening game of a series against Morehouse led Miles to a 15-13 win. In the series finale, his 400-foot rocket over the scoreboard in left center broke a 2-all tie en route to a 7-2 win that gave the Golden Bears a sweep over the Maroon Tigers. On the season, Rutledge is slashing .293/.481/.517 with four doubles, three home runs, 14 runs batted in, 19 runs scored and 9-of-10 in stolen bases.
The Golden Bears are back in action this weekend when they begin a three-game set at LeMoyne-Owen.
