Game Recap: Softball |

Spring Hill takes down Lady Bears

The Miles softball team saw its losing streak hit 11 games after dropping a three-game series to Spring Hill on Sunday and Monday at the Miles Softball Complex. The Lady Bears (5-20, 2-11 SIAC) held an early lead in the opening game before falling 6-3 in the series opener. The Badgers (14-13, 13-0) took the final two games, 13-3 and 10-0, and remain perfect in conference play. Michelle Tanks (.375/.444/.750) led the charge offensively for Miles.

GAME 1 -- Spring Hill 6, Miles 3

The Lady Bears held the lead until late before the Badgers erupted in the sixth inning to seize control of the contest. Miles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first when Tanks hit her second home run of the season, a 2-run laser to center field. In the second, Miles added to its lead when Jordan Davis singled to center, driving in Shalayiah Waid for a 3-1 advantage.

But the Badgers added a run in the fifth before exploding in the sixth. With one out, Taylor Pittman and Emily Phillips each had two-run doubles off Desalynn Nesbitt, who came in to relieve Abigail Boudreaux after the first two runners of the inning reached base. The Lady Bears brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh but could not gain any more traction against reliever Emmy Curry, who allowed just two hits in three scoreless innings of relief for Spring Hill.

GAME 2 -- Spring Hill 13, Miles 3

Miles, again, got on top early. Kiara Cobb led off with a single, stole second and ultimately scored on a wild pitch to put the Lady Bears on top in the first. After Spring Hill scored twice in the second, Waid tied the score in the bottom of the frame with her first round-tripper of the season - a solo blast to center. But a 2-run home run by Meadow Villar off starter Mikaylah Harris broke the deadlock in the third and the Badgers scored three runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to break the game open. The Lady Bears did add another run in the sixth. Skylar Jones singled, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Tanks, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Genia Hall.

GAME 3 - Spring Hill 10, Miles 0 (6)

Rycca Hinton hit two home runs off Boudreaux and drove in five in the first three innings to pace the Badgers, who won by the eight-run rule. Waid had two hits, including a double, but the Lady Bears had just four safeties for the game (Nesbitt and Tanks had the others).

Miles' best chance to score came in the third. Hinton took to the circle for Spring Hill and proceeded to walk the first three batters. Leighanna Turk, who started the contest, was quickly reinserted and got three straight ground balls to third base as the Lady bears failed to score with the bases loaded and no one out.

UP NEXT - Miles travels to play Mississippi College in a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
