MEMPHIS -- Miles had an opportunity to clinch the SIAC Western Division title Saturday afternoon with a win over LeMoyne-Owen. But the Lady Bears could not close out the division, falling 59-56 in overtime to the Lady Magicians at Hall/Johnson Gymnasium. That leaves the team one more opportunity to win the title on Monday afternoon at Lane (5:30 p.m. tip). But the Lady Bears (20=5, 16-3) certainly had their chances in this one.
The Lady Bears held a five-point with 5:34 left in regulation. But LOC scored eight straight points to take the lead with 1:44 remaining in the period.
Feliah Greer was fouled and converted two free throws to cut into the deficit, then she was fouled with 19 seconds on the clock. She missed the first free throw but converted on the second to tie the game. The Lady Bears then forced a turnover and had the final shot to win on regulation. But
Iemyiah Harris' (eight points, three rebounds, two assists) floater did not fall and the teams went into overtime tied at 47.
LOC (11-13, 9-11) quickly took a four-point lead at the start of overtime. But Greer drained a 3-pointer, then converted on two free throws that put Miles ahead, 52-51. Two more Greer freebies tied the game at 56 with 1:27 to go. Jade Salters would score after an offensive rebound to put the Lady Magicians back in front 45 seconds later. Madison Riley (team-high 16 points) had a chance to ice the game for LeMoyne-Owen with two free throws, but she missed the second attempt and Miles got the rebound, setting up a final chance to force overtime.
Simone Johnson had a wide-open 3-point opportunity from the top of the key. But the shot was long and the Lady Magicians celebrated the end of Miles' eight-game winning streak against them.
Sierra Lynch had 14 points and Kamryn Knight added 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead LeMoyne-Owen. Greer scored a game-high 13 points,
Tederia Ashley added 13 points and nine rebounds, and
Madison Lee had four points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Bears.
