Lady Bears unable to contain Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. -- Lane used a 15-3 run to close out the third quarter and take control of the game, dismantling Miles 78-62 and denying the Lady Bears an outright SIAC Western Division title. Miles (20-6, 15-4) dropped its final two regular season contests, which allowed Kentucky State to gain a share of the division crown.

Miles never led in the game but fought its way out of deficits in the first half. The Lady Bears gave up the first seven points of the game but Feliah Greer's 3-pointer at the horn tied the game at 15 at the end of the first quarter. Again down seven point in the second, Imani Williams made two free throws with just less than two minutes before halftime to cut the deficit to two before Lane went into the break with a 38-34 advantage.

Tederia Ashley (six points, seven rebounds, two steals) split two free throws at the 7:09 mark of the third quarter to bring Miles to within 42-39. But things went awry from there. The Lady Bears would miss 8-of-9 shots from the field to close out the period, with a Madison Lee bucket with 2:49 to go in the period the only field goal. At one point, Miles turned the ball over on four straight possessions. A 3-pointer by Taylor Lattimore at the third-quarter buzzer gave Lane a 57-42 advantage and put the Lady Bears' chances of an outright division title in serious peril. Williams (five points, six rebounds) split two free throws with 6:40 left in the game to cut the deficit to seven points but Lane would close the game out, pushing its lead as high as 18 points late.

Brailyn Tate (24 points), Dyani Bernstine and Lattimore (20 points each) had big nights for Lane. Iemyiah Harris scored a team-high 22 points, Lee added 13, and Greer and Kiyara Howard-Garza each scored seven for Miles, which will play next at the SIAC Championships in Savannah, Ga.
