Miles mauls Allen on Senior Night

Miles closed out its home schedule on Tuesday night with a dominating performance against Allen that was reflective of its ability to protect its home court during the entire season. The Lady Bears went 14-1 at home and saved one of its best performances for last, shooting more than 50 percent from the floor in the first half and holding the Yellow Jackets to just four baskets in the entire second half en route to a 74-47 win on Senior Night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.

The game was knotted at 19 after the first quarter before Miles began to take over and used the long ball to do it. Iemyiah Harris and Madison Lee (eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks) splashed back-to-back triples as part of an 8-0 run that gave the Lady Bears the lead for good to open the second quarter. After Mya Johnson made a 3-pointer for Allen to stop the run, Harris answered with another 3-ball, which was followed by a bucket from Tederia Ashley (eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, two steals) that boosted the Miles lead to 32-22 with 6:50 left before halftime. Feliah Greer made her own 3-pointer, sandwiched by two buckets from Kiyara Howard-Garza (five points, two rebounds, two steals) as part of another 8-0 to push the lead as high as 16 points in the second quarter before the Lady Bears settled for a 45-32 halftime advantage.

The finishing blow came in the third quarter. Miles started getting easy buckets under the basket while Allen could not get any buckets at all. The Yellow Jackets went almost six minutes between the two field goals they converted in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Asha Shareef (six points) had three layups during that time, part of a 10-0 run that lifted the lead as high as 23 points. Miles led 60-38 going into the final period but continued to pour it on. Senior Nuriyah Slaton (five points, two rebounds, two assists) drained a 3-pointer while Imani Williams (four points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists) and India Brown (four points) added buckets on consecutive possessions to give Miles its biggest lead - 74-44 - with just less than three minutes to go.

Johnson had 11 points, five rebounds, four assists to lead Allen. Greer (game-high 15 points) and Harris (12 points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals) led the charge for Miles, which travels to play at LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
