Aaliyah Sanders was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week by the Southern Intercollegate Athletic Conference for her performance during the past week for the Lady Bears. It is the second time this season that she has won the award.
Sanders, a senior from Tuscaloosa, had 67 digs, five assists and a service ace in four matches at the SIAC Western Cluster in Jackson, Tenn. Her best performance came in a three-set win over LeMoyne Owen, when she had 27 digs. It was the second-high number of digs Sanders has had in a match this season and fifth time that she had at least 20 digs. Sanders had double-digit digs in three of the four matches this past week.
On the season, Sanders is averaging 3.96 digs per set, which is fifth in the SIAC. She and the Lady Bears will be back in action on Thursday, when they host Spring Hill. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
