Golden Bears Sweep Golden Tigers
The Lady Golden Bears hosted rival Lady Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University and once again had an impressive home performance, sweeping the Golden Tigers in dominate fashion.
The Lady Golden Bears jumped out to big leads early in the first two sets that fueled convincing victories in both matches. In the third set, the Lady Bears jumped to a 15-7 lead but the Lady Tigers made things interesting and rallied their way back into the match, cutting the lead to as little as two. However, the Bears were able to hold off the comeback and close out the set 25-22 to complete the sweep.
As a team, the Lady Bears hit .323 for the match with 39 kills, 11 aces, 33 assists, and 43 digs.
Kayla Johnson led the Lady Bears attack with a team-high 13 kills, hitting .357 and adding a match-high 3 blocks.
Mya Broom also added 10 kills while
Zykellia Blount contributed 5 of her own.
Anya Creecy dominated, leading both teams in assists with 26 while
Kiera Washington added a match-high 12 digs. The Lady Bears never trailed in this match and currently sit 2-1 on the season.
The Lady Bears will be in action this weekend when they travel to Montgomery to participate in the Warhawk Invitational. In the first match of the scheduled doubleheader, the Lady Bears will face off against the Lady Warhawks of the University of Auburn Montgomery. Game time is set for 9:00 a.m. This will be the first time the two in state schools will face each other. Later that day, the Lady Bears will take on the Mulerider of Southern Arkansas University at 4:30pm. On Saturday, the Lady bears will travel two hours away to Pensacola Florida to battle Pensacola Christian College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
