Miles Sweeps SIAC Western Cluster

Wilberforce, OH | The Miles Golden Bears traveled to Wilberforce, OH, this past weekend, and picked up three divisional conference wins against the Marauders of Central State University, the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University, and the Dragons of Lane College.

In the first match, the Golden Bears were able to prevail in five sets (25-14, 21-25, 16-25, 25-12, 15-12).  The Golden Bears won the first set easily, but dropped the next two.  The Golden Bears would regain their composure to win the fourth and fifth set to close out the match. Kiera Washington (15), Laila Esters (13), and Kayla Johnson (12) recorded double-digit kills.  The trio also dominated the frontline defensively with blocks from Esters-5, Washington-4 and Johnson-3.  Chaiza Jones served up five aces, while Anya Creecy recorded 38 assists.  Jones (20), Washington (14) and Creecy (13) each had double-digit digs.  

Match two would see the Golden Bears defeated the Marauders, 3-0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-14). Mya Broom and Kiera Washington each had nine kills in the match.  Lailah Hester recorded four blocks, and Washington contributed three blocks of her own. Anya Creecy set up the offense with 28 assists, while Kayla Trawick led the defense with 20 digs.

The final match of the cluster would see the Golden Bears back to their dominant ways. The Golden Bears would cruise to a 3-0 victory, defeating the Dragons 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, and 25-13). Esters led the team with kills (8), followed by Washington (6), and Broom (5).  Creecy would lead the Lady Bears offensively with three aces and 20 assists.  Jones (14) and Washington (13) would tally double-digit digs in the match.

The Golden Bears will be on the road Thursday when they travel to Tuscaloosa, AL to face non-conference foe Stillman College.  The Golden Bears will close out the week Saturday with a divisional matchup against LeMoyne-Owen College.
