The Lady Bears Split Two Road Matches

Defeat Tigers 3-0 in non-conference match but fall to the Magicians 3-2

Thursday, Golden Bears traveled down I-20 West to Tuscaloosa to battle the Stillman Tigers. The Golden Bears prevailed in the match, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18).

Kiera Washington would lead the Golden Bears in both kills (13) and digs (11). Chaiza Jones led the team with two aces and second in digs (9). The defensive front row was led by Zykellia Blount with three blocks. Anya Creecy set up the offense with 29 assists. Blount tallied an attack percentage of .529 to lead the team, followed by Washington at .462.

Saturday, the Golden Bears would fall to the Magician of LeMoyne-Owen in five sets (22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 11-15. The  Magicians took the first set but the Golden Bears would answer in the second set to even things up.  A 9-0 run by LeMoyne-Owen in the third set secured the victory for the Magicians and a 2-1 match lead but the golden Bears would answer in the fourth match with their own 13-3 run to tie the match at 2-2. The final set was a game of runs. LeMoyne-Owen jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Miles was able to tie the score a 4-4. The Golden Bears would then go on a 6-2 run for a 10-6 lead but the Magicians would close the game on a 9-1 run to secure the 15-11 victory.

On the day, Kiera Washington (13), Mya Broom (12) and Zykellia Blount (10) had double-digit kills. Broom also contributed three aces, four blocks, and 25 digs. Kayla Trawick helped anchor the defense with a team leading 31 digs, and Aaliyah Sanders followed up with 19 digs. Anya Creecy led the offense with 44 assists.

Miles will be back in action when they kick off the SIAC Western Cluster with a doubleheader on Thursday at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The Golden Bears will look to avenge their losses against Spring Hill at 3:00 p.m and LeMoyne-Owen at 7:00 p.m.
