JACKSON, Tenn. --
Feliah Greer knocked down two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give Miles a 59-57 win over Lane Saturday afternoon at Oman Arena. The win snapped the Lady Bears' two-game losing streak and gave them eight wins in their last 10 contests on the Lady Dragons' home floor.
Miles (8-4, 5-3 SIAC West) led by one point entering the fourth quarter but quickly lost that advantage when Lane knocked down a 3-pointer to open the scoring in the final period. The game remained tight the rest of the way with three ties and two lead changes, neither squad leading by more than two points at any time. An offensive rebound and putback by
Eunique McKinney gave the Lady Bears a 55-54 lead at the midway point and they would not trail again.
There were no more buckets for Miles over the next three-plus minutes as the Lady Bears stagnated on offense. The defense, though, kept the team in the game, allowing just a three free throws to Lane for the rest of the contest. When
Nuriyah Slaton (10 points, four rebounds) scored with 1:26 to go, Miles was staked to a 57-55 advantage. Two Brailyn Tate free throws for Lane tied the score with 37 seconds remaining to set up the final sequence.
Imani Williams' (six points, five steals) jumper was not true but Greer (six points, game-high nine rebounds) grabbed the missed shot and was fouled. While the team has been struggling from the charity stripe of late, she calmly knocked down both freebies to put Miles back in front. A game-winning 3-ball by Lane went long and
Tederia Ashley grabbed the miss to secure the victory.
Jordyn Neal had a game-high 14 points to lead Lane. McKinney had 13 points off the bench and
Iemyiah Harris added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals for Miles, which travels to play LeMoyne-Owen on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
