Lady Bears light up LeMoyne-Owen

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- After starting the new year with its two lowest-scoring games of the season, Miles ended its four-game road swing with its best offensive showing of the season. Four players scored in double figures and the Lady Bears shot over 50 percent from the field in an 84-72 win over LeMoyne-Owen on Monday Night at Hall-Johnson Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (9-4, 6-3 SIAC West) were in control from the start, opening the game with a big run. Five different players scored and three of them made three-pointers, the final one coming from Kelli Finkley (11 points) for a 17-2 lead with 3:38 left in the first quarter. Miles made 10-of-15 shots from the field during the opening 10 minutes for its highest scoring quarter of the season in taking a 28-14 lead at the end of the period.

LeMoyne-Owen found its offensive rhythm in the second quarter. After falling behind by as many as 16 points, the Lady Magicians (4-10, 1-5) cut the deficit to eight points with less than two minutes to go in the half. But Miles was able to get a couple of buckets going into the break, the last coming from Alyah Postma (six points) to give the Lady Bears a 46-32 advantage at halftime.

Consecutive 3-pointers from Iemyiah Harris early in the third quarter pushed the Miles lead to 20 points and when Feliah Greer (12 points, four steals) scored on a putback with two minutes left in the period, the Lady Bears had their biggest lead at 61-40. The lead would get even bigger in the fourth when Imani Williams (11 points) scored to push the margin to 22 points as the Miles cruised to victory on the strength of 53 percent shooting from the field - 64 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the 3-point arc - and scoring 28 points off of 21 Lady Magicians turnovers.

Gracie Hampton had 14 points and Kike Ojo added 12 points to lead LeMoyne-Owen. Harris scored a game-high 15 points and Tederia Ashley added nine points and seven rebounds for Miles, which returns home for the first time in a month when it hosts Kentucky State on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
