Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Central State no match for Lady Bears

One game after posting its best defensive effort of the season, Miles' offense took center stage in an 86-55 win over Central State Wednesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The Lady Bears (11-4, 8-3 SIAC West) scored their most points and tied their largest margin of victory in securing their fourth consecutive victory.

The only possible downside is that th game could have been much more lopsided. Miles set a season-high in baskets made (33) and field goal attempts (86). The 60 rebounds (which was one off the season-high) included 31 offensive boards, which was nearly more than Central State (35) had the entire night. Five players scored in double figures and two had double-doubles, Madison Lee (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Feliah Greer (11 points, 10 rebounds).  The Lady Bears scored 29 points off 30 CSU turnovers, blocked seven shots, had a season-high 20 assists and was nearly perfect from the free throw line (15-of-17).

Despite the final numbers, the game was close late into the second quarter. The score was tied at 27 before the Lady Bears, specifically Iemyiah Harris, took off. Lee scored with just more than a minute remaining before the half to give Miles the lead for good. But Harris knocked down two 3-balls in the final 30 seconds. She was fouled on the last one with 1.9 seconds left and made the free throw to convert the four-point play and give the Lady Bears a 36-27 advantage going into the break.

A 12-2 run in the early minutes of the third quarter really gave Miles room. Greer and Harris hit 3-pointers that gave the Lady Bears to cap the spurt and open a 48-31 lead midway through the period. The Marauders would not make a basket from the field over the final 5:26 and Miles made them pay with a 16-3 run to close the quarter. Eunique McKinney's basket right before the buzzer lifted the Lady Bears to 61-34 lead going into the fourth and the rout was on. Miles would play the final quarter with a lead that never got lower than 24 points and was as high as 33 points.

Kailyn Nash (14 points, seven rebounds) was the only player in double figures for Central State. Big performers for Miles included Harris (16 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals), Tederia Ashley (13 points, six rebounds, four steals), and McKinney (10 points, five rebounds). The Lady Bears are back in action on Saturday at Tuskegee. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
