Feliah Greer vs. Savannah State 2022

Lady Bears split in-state road games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Miles did not have to leave the state for its latest two contests as the Lady Bears did the Alabama Two-Step with stops at Tuskegee and Spring Hill. Riding a four-game win streak coming into the Saturday contest against the SIAC West-leading Golden Tigerettes, the Lady Bears had the lead going into the fourth quarter before falling 62-57. It was a different story against the Badgers, with Miles using a hot first quarter to roll towards a commanding 81-55 win on Monday.

TUSKEGEE 62, MILES 57

The Lady Bears raced out to an early lead, scoring 19 points on near-50 percent shooting in the opening period. Tuskegee would take a 23-21 lead with four minutes remaining before halftime but Miles answered with a 12-1 run to grab a nine-point advantage. The Golden Tigerettes did not make a shot from the field over the last 4:36 of the quarter and trailed 33-26 at the break.

A jumper by Feliah Greer (eight points, five rebounds) on the opening possession of the second half had the lead back to nine points and Tuskegee stayed cold from the field, missing eight straight shots in more than seven minutes of game action between the second and third quarters. But Miles was having its own offensive struggles. After shooting 47 percent from the floor in the first quarter, the Lady Bears shot just 27 percent over the final three quarters. Still, Miles held a 45-43 edge going into the final period.

Tuskegee came out firing in the fourth quarter, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to open a four-point lead just 70 seconds into the final period. In the second half, Miles was getting more careless with the ball and Tuskegee took full advantage. The Golden Tigerettes scored 20 points off 12 Lady Bears turnovers in the final half which helped put Miles in an eight-point hole with 2:40 to go. The Lady Bears made a valiant run, getting four quick points from Greer and a 3-ball from Nuriyah Slaton (team-high 12 points) that cut the Miles deficit to 58-57 with 37 second left. But TU knocked down its free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Iemyiah Harris (11 points), Tederia Ashley (nine points, eight rebounds), and Imani Williams (game-high 10 rebounds) were among the top performers for the Lady Bears.

MILES 81, SPRING HILL 55

Four Lady Bears scored in double figures, which offset the big night from Spring Hill's Tyashia Bostick, as Miles won its fifth consecutive game against the Badgers and third straight at the Outlaw Center.

Using consistent, relentless pressure, the Lady Bears forced Spring Hill to repeatedly give up the ball, especially in the first quarter. Ten of the Badgers' 26 turnovers came in the opening period and Miles scored 15 points off the miscues. After scoring the first seven points of the game, Miles got three straight steals by Imani Williams (six points, five rebounds, three assist, three steals, two blocks) and Iemyiah Harris that turned into easy layups for Madison Lee (11 points), Harris and Feliah Greer (11 points, three steals, two blocks) for a 15-2 lead halfway through the first. The Lady Bears led by as many as 16 points and ended the quarter with a 22-7 advantage.

Bostick did what she could to keep the game close for Spring Hill. Down 19 with less than 90 seconds left before halftime, she drained consecutive 3-pointers to send the Badgers to the locker room trailing 39-26. She had 17 of Spring Hill's points but she was nowhere close to done, even if her team was in big trouble.

To start the third quarter, Bostick scored the Badgers' first seven points and 10 of the team's 15 points in the period. But Eunique McKinney's breakaway layup after a steal by Williams gave Miles a 21-point advantage late in the period and the Lady Bears went into the fourth with a 59-41 lead. The Spring Hill guard kept firing in the fourth, as she nailed a 3-ball that brought her team to within 15 points near the midway point. But Greer, Tomesia Staten and Harris (12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals) drilled 3-pointers of their own in an ensuing 13-0 run that put the final nail in the coffin.

Bostick scored a game-high 32 points for Spring Hill. Tederia Ashley (17 points, nine rebounds) led the Lady Bears in points and rebounds while Deresia Randle had seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.
