Lady Bears drop first game against Spring Hill

Miles entered the first game of its three-game series against Spring Hill  coming off a 5-1 mark in the SIAC Crossover. But it had been nearly two weeks since the Lady Bears had taken the field due to inclement weather.

Unfortunately, the Lady Bears were unable to get back into that winning groove on Friday, dropping a 7-1 decision to the Badgers in their first home contest of the season. The defense betrayed Miles (8-12-1, 5-2 SIAC West), as four Lady Bears errors led to three unearned runs - two of them late - for Spring Hil (15-11, 9-3).

Miles trailed 3-0 after three innings but started to cme back in the fourth. A RBI groundout by Fayth Bryant scored Shalayiah Waid to cut into the lead. With DeOnia Gibby on third and two outs, Michelle Tanks hit a sharp grounder to second but was thrown out to end the threat.

Miles pitcher Mikaylah Harris gave up the early runs but was holding the Badgers at bay, hoping the offense would come around. But Spring Hill scored an unearned run in the sixth without the benefit of a hit. Three more runs game across in the seventh as some mental and physical miscues by Miles gave the Badgers all the insurance they would need.

The two teams are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader, first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
