Miles suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of Spring Hill this weekend, dropping the final two games, 11-0 and 2-0, Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bears (8-13-1, 5-4 SIAC West) got a solid performance in the circle from
Mikaylah Harris but were only able to muster six hits over the two contests.
GAME 1 - Spring Hill 11, Miles 0
The Lady Bears struggled in the field, committing six errors that were compounded by 14 additional Spring Hill baserunners. But Miles did have a couple of opportunities to score in the early innings.Â
Down 1-0 in the first,
Kiara Cobb reached on a bunt single, stole second, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Nyia Westbrook. But back-to-back strikeouts kept the Lady Bears from tying the score. Two errors led to three more Badgers runs in the third but the Lady Bears were able to get
Jaliyah Brown to third with one out after a single, stolen base and a wild pitch. Still, Miles was unable to capitalize and Spring Hill ultimately pulled away late.
GAME 2 - Spring Hill 2, Miles 0
Harris allowed just two hits to the Badgers in the nightcap, a leadoff single in the first that led to their first run and a two-out RBI single in the fourth. But she otherwise stifled an offense that had scored 18 runs over the first two games of the series.
While Miles was unable to muster much offense, it did have an opportunity to put runs on the board in the fourth. Westbrook led off with a single and stole second. She moved to third on a groundout.
DeOnia Gibby lofted a fly ball to short center field and Westbrook tried to score after the catch. But she was gunned down at home and the Lady Bears did not get another baserunner over the final three innings.
