Miles posted its largest-ever margin of victory against Benedict in a wire-to-wire 64-46 win Thursday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The Lady Bears (6-2, 3-1 SIAC West) held the Tigers (3-7, 1-4 SIAC East) under 28 percent shooting from the field and forced 41 turnovers as they bested a 17-point win over Benedict in 2009.
Benedict made just three baskets from the field in the first half and missed all 10 of its 3-point attempts. The Lady Bears scored 19 points off turnovers in the first half and
Alyah Postma scored nine of her season-high 13 points in the second period - outscoring the entire Tigers squad in the process - as Miles led 27-12 at the break.
The second half was much the same.
Iemyiah Harris only took three shots in the third quarter. All of them were 3-pointers and all of them went in. The last came at the buzzer and gave the Lady Bears a 46-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Benedict tried to ratchet up the tempo in the final quarter but Miles was up to the challenge, pushing the lead as high as 24 points before settling for the record-breaking victory.
Jasmine Gholson and Taylor Christmas each had 12 points to lead Benedict. Harris had a game-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting along with four assists,
Imani Williams had 11 points, four rebounds and four steals,
Madison Lee had nine points, three rebounds and two steals, and
Nuriyah Slaton added six points and a game-high nine rebounds for Miles, which hosts Allen on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
