Bang. Bang. Bang.
That's what happened over the final two-and-a-half minutes Saturday afternoon that allowed Miles to erase a fourth-quarter deficit and turn it into a double-digit win over Allen at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The Lady Bears scored the final 13 points of the game to earn a 67-56 win to improve to 7-2 overall, 3-1 in conference play.
Miles trailed by as many as six points early in the fourth quarter and was still down by two points with three minutes remaining. A steal by
Imani Williams (seven points, six rebounds, three steals) turned into a bucket by
Iemyiah Harris' to tie the game at 56. From there, the Lady Bears got hot from long range at the right time.
Nuriyah Slaton drained a 3-pointer on the following possession to give Miles the lead. The next time down the floor, with shot clock running down,
Feliah Greer let loose from deep to give the Lady Bears a 62-56 lead with 1:27 left.
The Lady Bears would force another turnover on the ensuing possession, one of 29 they would cause in the contest. After a missed shot attempt and offensive rebound, Harris was open and drilled a corner 3-ball with just more than a minute to go for an insurmountable 65-56 advantage. Miles scored 32 points off of Allen turnovers, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the final 4:17 of the contest.
Destinee Jamison-Whitfield scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Allen. Harris (23 points, six rebounds, three steals), Greer (10 points, four steals), Slaton (10 points, seven rebounds, four steals), and
Eunique McKinney (eight points) led the charge for Miles, which next plays on Jan. 2 when it traves to face Albany State. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
