HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Going into Thursday night's contest against Oakwood, there was not much worry about the final score for the Miles' women's basketball team.
Already owning a 36-point win over the Lady Ambassadors this season, the Lady Bears (13-5) did it one better, taking a 84-47 win over Oakwood. All 16 players who suited up got on the floor and after building a comfortable lead, coach
Phillip Wallace, Jr. was able to get some rest for many of the players who generally are at the top of his rotation.
Oakwood (2-18) would score the first five points of the game but the Lady Bears would score the next 10 and never looked back en route to their fourth consecutive victory. They would lead 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and held the Lady Ambassadors without a field goal for more than 10 minutes between the first two quarters.
Kahyanne Bolton's steal and layup four minutes into the second quarter had given Miles a 31-11 advantage.
The Lady Bears led 46-18 at halftime as Wallace substituted liberally. It was more of the same in the second half, which allowed several players to get extended minutes.
Amya Bryant had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists as one of 11 players who got at least 10 minutes of playing time.
Jasmine Hollis played just more than 6 minutes but she made all three of her field goal attempts and grabbed seven rebounds as Miles got 43 points from its bench.
Miles would lead by as many as 42 points in the fourth quarter. The defense forced 36 turnovers (28 steals) and scored 34 points off of them, dominating on the glass (55-40) and holding Oakwood to just 32 percent shooting from the field.
Ivori Martin scored 10 points and Alexis Boykin had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for Oakwood.
Sakina Wynn led all scorers with 14 points and added four steals, Bolton had 12 points and 6 steals,
Mya Millner and
Victoria Sutton each scored 7 points, and
Raiana Johnson had 4 points and a game-high 8 rebounds for Miles, which hosts Lane on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
