ALBANY, Ga. -- Miles rapped out 14 hits and
Noah Ledbetter was sparkling in relief as Miles stayed alive in the 2019 SIAC Baseball Tournament with an 8-2 win over Morehouse Saturday afternoon at the ASU Sports Complex.
The win came in the third straight elimination game for the Golden Bears (26-22), who defeated the Maroon Tigers (12-28) for the third time this season. The game was tied at 2 until the bottom of the fourth, when Miles scored three times to take the lead for good.
Alex Bentley, who went 3-for-5 and scored three times, singled to drive in
Will Cantey, who doubled with one out. With two outs,
Peyton Logan singled to bring home Bentley and
Dalton Roberts for a 5-2 advantage.
Starter
Peyton Godfrey pitched well for Miles, giving up just two hits and two runs over 4 1/3 innings. But he walked six and hit two batters, one of each which came in the fifth, and exited the game with two runners on base. Enter Ledbetter (1-3), who retired the next two hitters to extinguish the Morehouse threat. He would allow just three hits over his 4 2/3 innings of relief - two of those hits did not come until the ninth inning - to earn his first win of the season.
Miles would add more runs in the fifth (RBI single by Bentley) and seventh (RBI single by Roberts and bases loaded walk to
Destin Davidson) to keep the Maroon Tigers at bay.
Brandon Conner went 4-for-5 with a RBI, Logan finished with three RBI and
Ryne Benson had two hits for Miles, which advanced to play top-seed Albany State. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
