MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Miles ran its win streak over Tuskegee to 16 games with 7-4Â and 23-10 wins Friday afternoon at Paterson Field.
Jacob Bisharat and
Destin Davidson both hit home runs and the Golden Bears scored their most runs since a 26-11 win over Kentucky State in 2016, a span of 153 games.
GAME 1 - Miles 7, Tuskegee 4
Miles nearly squandered a three-run lead but Davidson hit a 3-run home run in the seventh to give the Golden Bears some insurance. Tuskegee led 1-0 after an inning before Davidson's sacrifice fly knotted the score. Bisharat then gave Miles the lead for good with two-run blast to center, his team-leading sixth of the season.
Ryne Bensons' RBI double in the fifth pushed the advantage to 4-1.
The golden Tigers would push across two unearned runs against
Matthew McDonald (2-0) in the bottom of the fifth to slash the deficit to a single run. But two walks in the top of the seventh set the stage for Davidson, who smoked the Nytorious Cooler offering well over the wall in left for a 7-3 advantage. Tuskegee would score a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate but
Will Cantey struck out Joshua Lewis to pick up his fifth save of the season.
GAME 2 - Miles 23, Tuskegee 10
The Golden Bears did their damage early and often as they set a season-high for runs scored in a game. Seven different players had at least two hits, with Bisharat going 5-for-6 with three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored.
Alex Bentley (3-for-5, two RBI, three runs),
Cody Hamilton (3-for-6, three RBI, two runs), and Davidson (4-for-5, two RBI, three runs) also posted big performances as Miles scored five runs in the first and led 7-0 after two turns at bat.
With the offense operating at full throttle, pitcher
Andrew Datcher had little trouble going to 5-0 on the season. He gave up eight runs (five earned) with four walks and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. But Tuskegee wan never closer than eight runs after the third inning. Miles scored in every inning, putting up a 5-spot in the first, third and seventh innings. Even as head coach
Ty Roberts began substituting players and did his best to suppress the score, the subs were still making things go. Cantey came off the bench to get two hits and drove in two runs and
Malik Moses got a hit, drove in a run and scored twice.
UP NEXT - Miles will play Tuskegee in another doubleheader on Saturday with the start time still to be determined,
